Fellowship and Events

Church fellowship is one of the most important characteristics of St John's.  Our members know and love one another, and this love for each other flows out of God's love for us.  At St John's, we grow our love for each other through the experiences we share in our Parish fellowship activities, our faith ministries, and church events .  Each of these provides conversations marked by laughter, honesty, and encouragement, and allow us to be connected to one another and to God's world in new ways.

Fellowship

Coffee Hour - Held in the church Parish Hall immediately following the 10:00 AM worship service on Sunday mornings.  Each week, the coffee hour host provides the food and the church provides the coffee and the fellowship.

St John's Day - Parish Picnic that takes place annually in June on the last day of Sunday School for the year.  At St John's Day, the church celebrates our church family as a circle of strength and love, founded in faith, joined in love, and kept by God.  We also thank all of our faithful stewards who have generously volunteered their time, treasures and talents to the life of our parish.

Hospitality Guild  - Is always there, even on short notice, to share the warmth and kindness that we

all know at St John's.  They are congenial and helpful in making even sometimes difficult occasions

comfortable.

Newcomers Group -  Greet and welcome the new people who are attending our worship services for

the first time. They assist in answering any questions our guests may have and also gather information

about the newcomers for followup by our clergy.

Gathering Meal - Is a free community luncheon sponsored by St John's, First Church, and Corpus

Christi each month.  The meal provides fellowship for each other and for the community while helping those that are less fortunate continue to thrive.

Blessing of the Animals - We can't forget about our furry and slimy friends.  Blessing of the animals is held each year on or near the Feast Day of St. Francis Assisi which falls on October 4th where the church pews are filled with creatures large and small.

Men's Group - Meets at the Daniel Webster Inn in Sandwich on the first Saturday of each month from 8:00 AM - 9:30 AM for Faith, Food and Fellowship.  Come and share a light breakfast and conversation with other men about their vocations and experience as men of faith in the world.

Woman's Group - Meets in the Parish Hall once a month for faith and fellowship.  The Woman's Group is very active with the annual Christmas Fair and each month they welcome's guest speakers that enable the group to expand their ministries into the community.  Lots of great food and laughter too!

Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper - Marking the start of Lent, we serve up a loaded pancake supper for the parish with a Mardi Gras theme. Whether you are flipping pancakes, serving, or just there to enjoy the meal, the conversation and connection to other parishioners is uplifting.

Bible Study at the Pub - Held weekly during Lent and monthly throughout the rest of the year, this study group provides a casual evening of great conversation, conviviality, and learning.

Hugs from Home - Meets in the Parish Hall on Mondays from 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM and Wednesdays

from 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM to sew quilts that are shipped overseas to our active deployed military as

a way to help them feel closer to home.

Annual Fellowship Events

St John's Golf Tournament - The Golf Tournament is held each year in May and includes a day of golf

followed by dinner and auctions.  It is a wonderful way to connect to other parishioners and build

close relationships.

4th of July Pancake Breakfast -  Every 4th of July we serve about 250 guests at our annual Pancake

Breakfast which is served from 8 am to 10 am, just prior to the annual town parade that goes right

down Main Street in front of the church.

Christmas Fair - Held on the Friday and Saturday after Thanksgiving each year, the Christmas Fair

continues to be an important fellowship event for the church.  The Fair includes the Christmas Cafe

with handmade lobster rolls and chowder, wreaths and greens, a huge bake sale, raffle baskets, a

silent auction, crafters, and our famous St John's table filled with handmade items made with love

by our parishioners.
