ST JOHN'S EPISCOPAL CHURCH
Sandwich, Massachusetts

Service Details
Our worship each weekend is an expression of our faith. We have three unique Eucharistic services at St John's. Please join us for the service that best fits your preferences and schedule.
There are two types of liturgies in the Episcopal Church, Rite I and Rite II. Both Rite I and Rite II services are Eucharistic services and stem from the adoption of the new Book of Common Prayer in 1979.
Rite I is more like the older, 1928 version of the Book of Common Prayer, retaining the use of "thee" and "thou," only slightly updated versions of the Creed and the prayers, and old confession and Prayer of Consecration. Rite II is a more modern service, with updated language and more options for prayers, including several for the Prayers of the People and the Prayer of Consecration.
5:00 PM Saturday
This service is a Rite II liturgy with Holy Eucharist, but without music accompaniment. There is a healing service on the last Saturday of the month.
8:00 AM Sunday
This service is a Rite I liturgy with Holy Eucharist, but without music accompaniment.
10:00 AM Sunday
This service is a Rite II liturgy with Holy Eucharist. The pipe organ and piano are played, and hymns and service music are sung by the congregation. St. John's Choir takes the summer off and will return in the Fall. During the summer months, various members of the congregation offer their musical talents as soloists. Following this service we offer fellowship and refreshments.
Sunday School meets during the school year starting at 9:45 and report directly to their classrooms in the undercroft. The children join the service before exchanging of the Peace and Holy Eucharist.
